HCI migration in the data center

Our customer from the public education sector was faced with the challenge of being able to provide the increasing demands on IT resources faster and more flexibly without neglecting security aspects. Softline supported it in this: the virtualisation technology already in use for most of his server services was replaced by a hyperconvergent infrastructure, thus making even better use of the performance potential and at the same time reducing the effort required for IT administration.

The challenge

  • Growing use of technology, increased complexity of the overall system, rising resource requirements
  • Increased manual effort of IT administration
  • Need to automate and simplify all basic functionalities of the core infrastructure to the extent that as little expertise and time as possible needs to be spent on administration by the IT department
  • Switch to a hyperconverged infrastructure in order to be able to quickly provide new functionalities for users

Our solution

  • All-round consulting services for the technologically and economically optimal solution
  • Installation and configuration of a hyperconverged cluster based on a Nutanix platform at the main data center
  • Migration of previously non-virtualized servers and existing data to the new cluster
  • Setup of a backup and replication concept at the secondary site with QNAP NAS and Veeam Backup & Replication incl. disaster/failover scenario
  • Instruction workshop for the systems on site
  • Creation and delivery of a brief documentation

The highlights

  • Significant performance increases
  • Reduction of energy costs
  • Centralized and simplified administration of basic data center components
  • Reduction of the complexity of the overall system
  • Integration of essential security mechanisms - automatically configured
  • Replacement of additional old servers with more clusters planned
  • Transfer of Oracle-based POS software into the Nutanix environment planned
